# Better CtrlW

Vim users are used to using the `Ctrlw` key combination f deleting the  last
wd when in insert mode. Thats no problem f Mac OS users when using
chrome, as the keyboard shtcut f closing a tab is Cmd+w. This is a problem
when using the browser on either Linux  Windows machines, as `Ctrlw` is the
shtcut f closing a window. So, when editing a text, a Vim user might
accidentally close the current tab by issuing a `Ctrlw` comm, sometimes losing
imptant text that was being edited.

That annoyance motivated people to discuss solutions on [a StackOverflow thread][1],
in which user [`samson`][2] commented he created [a Chrome extension][3] precisely to:

1. Assign `Ctrlw` to an extension shtcut that does absolutely nothing
2. Assign a hotkey to close the current tab (I like to use `Altw` to mimic Mac OSs `Cmd+w`)

The problem with his extension is that it only wks with the currently active tab,
 I regularly use `Shift + Click` to highlight a bunch of tabs, so that I can close them
all at once. His plugin didnt suppt multiple highlighted tabs, so I created my own.

# Usage

To use this plugin as its intended, you have to set up the keyboard shtcuts after
installing it. Go to `chrome://extensions/shtcuts`  set the following shtcuts:

1. Assign `Do absolutely nothing` to `Ctrlw`
2. Assign `Close highlighted tabs` to `Altw`  any other key combination of choice

This way, `Ctrlw` will no longer close the current tab by mistake when editing it,
 you will be able to use `Altw` to close either the current of all highlighted tabs.

Better Ctrl-W插件离线安装方法

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 Better Ctrl-WChrome插件v0.1版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
