★ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ★

What operating systems does Checkbot run on?
Checkbot will run on any operating system that the Google Chrome browser can run on. This includes macOS, Linux, Chrome OS  Microsoft Windows.

Is Checkbot available f Firefox  other browsers?
Right now, Checkbot is only available f Google Chrome.

Why does Checkbot require the Chrome extension permissions it asks f?
To perfm crawls, Checkbot has to be able to fetch URLs from potentially any website. The only way to do this in Chrome at this time is if Checkbot asks f the “read  change all your data on the websites you visit” permission. This permission is used by Checkbot f the sole purpose of processing URL responses requested by Checkbot during crawls within the tab Checkbot runs inside. Checkbot does not interfere with your regular browsing in any way. We’d love to be able to ask f less permissions but like with other developer extensions f Chrome, this currently isn’t possible.

Is Checkbot a web service  does it run locally?
Checkbot is not a web service: all crawling  other functionality is perfmed locally on your own machine. This has the benefit that you can crawl as many sites as you want as often as you want which wouldn’t be practical on a web service shared  many users.

How do I get the latest release?
Google Chrome should transparently check f  download updates to Checkbot in the background within a few hours of a release being uploaded to the Chrome Web Ste. You need to close  restart Checkbot f a recently downloaded update to be applied. If you want to fce Chrome to check f  apply an update you can visit the chrome://extensions/ URL  press the “Update extensions now” button. Be aware that doing this will restart Checkbot  you’ll lose your current progress.

How do I know which version I have?
You can see which version of Checkbot you’re running by launching the extension  reading the version number from the cner of the start page. The version number is also displayed in your list of installed extensions if you visit the chrome://extensions/ URL.

How can I get notified about releases?

How do I rept bugs  feature requests?
If you’re having any problems using Checkbot  have ideas f new features  improvements, please feel free to contact us. Please fill out a bug rept if you think you’ve found a bug.

Should I aim to get a perfect sce?
If Checkbot gives your site a low sce in any categy, we would recommend you address the critical problems  whichever issues you consider imptant but we wouldn’t recommend you aim to get a perfect sce. It’s close to impossible f a moderately complex website to get full marks  even the Checkbot website has to make some concessions. F example, fixing some min issues might require 1) maj overhauls of your backend 2) f you to switch to a hosting solution that suppts the customisations you need  3) a third party script provider to make changes f you. Only you can decide which issues are imptant  practical to fix f your own website.

How can I expt  share repts?
F each rept, in the bottom right next to the search bar you should see a blue “expt” button. Click that button  the current table will be expted as a CSV file. If you’ve searched f anything, the file contents will be filtered by your search term also.

Can I tell Checkbot to igne URLs?
In the sidebar on the startup screen, there’s an option to igne URLs by pattern. See the help text there f tips on how you can give a list of regular expressions to igne sets of URLs which match particular patterns. F example, you could igne all URLs ending in “.png”, URLs to “example.com”  URLs containing the path “/login” to stop Checkbot from checking URLs you’re not interested in.

Does Checkbot execute JavaScript?
Checkbot does not currently execute JavaScript. Some of the reasons f this are that many websites don’t use JavaScript to modify the ce contents of their pages  running JavaScript during crawls would significantly slow the speed we could check pages along with other complications. We’re currently focused on features that give quick feedback f sites that don’t rely on JavaScript execution. You should also consider than many search bots do not execute JavaScript, search bots that do might have trouble indexing your particular JavaScript code,  some users might have JavaScript disabled.

Will Checkbot appear in my site’s analytics repts?
Checkbot does not execute JavaScript  send cookies during crawls so if your analytics solution requires these to wk, Checkbot won’t get tracked. If your analytics solution tracks visits when HTML pages, image URLs  similar are requested, you’ll need to add some way to filter Checkbot from your logs.

Why does Checkbot rept a page issue I cannot see with my browser?
Sometimes Checkbot might rept a problem on a web page you don’t see yourself when you visit that page in your browser. This can be f a number of reasons. F example, the page could be changing its behaviour based on the user agent  cookie contents,  because JavaScript execution is required.

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 Checkbot： SEO, Web Speed & Security Tester 🚀Chrome插件v1.4.1版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
