We spend hours a day online,  we see ads on every webpage we visit. But we don’t have any way of tracking the ads we’re being served — we don’t even know how many ads the average person sees in a given day. The ad industry currently has the power to  gather whatever infmation they want about you  tail their marketing strategies to whoever they’ve decided you are. This is not only invasive, it’s resulting in a browsing environment that constantly reinfces a demographic identity being ascribed to you by cpations — if they think you’re an upper middleclass woman in her 30s you might see only ads f fancy purses, diapers  wedding gowns, while your lowerincome male counterpart might see ads f payday loans, bigscreen TVs  fast food. We want to take back control over our data  fight against surveillance advertising, but to do that we need tools to underst what the ad industry is up to.

Floodwatch is a Chrome extension that tracks the ads you see as you browse the internet. It offers tools to help you underst both the volume  the types of ads you’re being served during the course of nmal browsing, with the goal of increasing awareness of how advertisers track your browsing behavi, build their version of your online identity,  target their ads to you as an individual. We want to assemble the largest amount of advertising data we can —  then not give it to the advertisers. We want to empower everyday users with at least as much infmation as the advertisers have about them,  put choice back in your hs

Floodwatch is currently in its Alpha release. We’re bringing me users on board,  the me users we have the me detailed picture we can start to develop about how the ad industry is using our infmation. As we grow, our next steps include improving our ad detection algithm, automatic ad classification,  developing further analytical  visualization tools to help you underst how your ad data compares to others’,  further wk on reverseengineering ad profiles to gain insight into advertisers’ methodologies. Floodwatch插件离线安装方法

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 FloodwatchChrome插件v0.7.14版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
