Find out how polarizing the content on your news feed is when compared to your friends as a whole.

What is PolitEcho?
PolitEcho shows you the political biases of your Facebook friends  news feed. The app assigns each of your friends a sce based on our prediction of their political leanings then displays a graph of your friend list. Then it calculates the political bias in the content of your news feed  compares it with the bias of your friends list to highlight possible differences  the two.

How do I use it?
PolitEcho is a Google Chrome extension. Click on the button above to find PolitEcho’s Google Chrome ste page  click the “Add to Chrome” button to install PolitEcho on your computer. Once it is installed, simply log into Facebook  click on the PolitEcho icon in your navigation bar to get started.

What does PolitEcho do with my Facebook data?
PolitEcho never sends your personal infmation to any external services,  your results stay private unless you choose to share them publicly. PolitEcho will need to look up some basic infmation from your news feed  friends list. In particular, it will examine what pages your friends have liked to estimate their political leaning  the sources f the posts on your news feed to figure out the relative bias of your news feed. All processing is done clientside, so data never leaves your computer.

How does the political analysis wk?
Your friends political ratings are based on the political Facebook pages they like. We compare your friends liked pages to a database of Facebook pages that have been rated f their liberal/conservative bias  then compute a sce based on any matches. Hovering over a persons data point will show you the reasoning behind the apps prediction.

PolitEcho插件离线安装方法

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 PolitEchoChrome插件v1.0.4版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
