Welcome to SocialSec!

Social media has become a widely popular fm of communication  sharing f billions of people around the wld. But sometimes, we have a tendency to “over share”  provide anyone with infmation that used to be at least semiprivate. Birthdates, anniversaries, names of our children  significant others. There also tends to be habit of using this infmation when creating passwds since that infmation is easy to remember being near  dear to our hearts.

Unftunately, this is a problem. “Hackers” can fmulate this knowledge into a Social Engineering attack. 

SocialSec is a Chrome extension designed to help keep you  your accounts safe from these attacks by comparing the public infmation posted to your social media accounts to passwds your are using  creating.

How do we do this?
SocialSec creates a custom wd list based on public profile infmation. This wd list also contains commonly found substitutions, i.e. @ f A, 3 f E  so on

Currently, SocialSec can only pull infmation from these social media sites:
Facebook

Once you’ve signed into your social media, you’re all set! 
SocialSec protects you in the background  will notify you when it detects a match  your wd list  a passwd you are currently using  a passwd you are attempting to create. SocialSec will then run you through the actions you can take concerning this passwd.

What infmation do you use?
At this time, we can only pull the most public infmation from Facebook, but we hope to change this in the near future to include any  all public infmation you would like to have in your wd list.

SocialSec was designed as an Arizona State University Capstone project. Your constructive feedback will help us refine SocialSec f future releases.

SocialSec插件离线安装方法

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 SocialSecChrome插件v0.2.0版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
