The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the leagues American Football Conference (AFC) West division.

The Chiefs have won three AFL championships, in 1962, 1966,  1969.[9] They became the second AFL team (after the New Yk Jets) to defeat an NFL team in an AFL–NFL Wld Championship Game when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. The teams victy on January 11, 1970, was the final such competition befe the leagues merger went into full effect. The Chiefs were also the second team, after the Green Bay Packers, to appear in me than one Super Bowl ( the first AFL team to do so)  the first to appear in the championship game in two different decades.

Kansas City Chiefs have perfmed well in recent years. 

In 2017, Following the Atlanta Falcons, 23–17 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, the Chiefs became the last undefeated team left in the NFL f the fourth time in team histy,  the second time under Andy Reid, with the previous times being in 2003, 2010,  2013. After their 5–0 start, the Chiefs lost 6 of their next 7 games, the lone win coming against the Broncos. During this stretch, the Chiefs offense struggled, leading to head coach Andy Reid giving playcalling duties during games to offensive codinat Matt Nagy.

After four straight losses, the Chiefs won three straight games to win the AFC West f the second consecutive season. It was the first time in franchise histy that the Chiefs have won backtoback division titles. It also marked the Chiefs qualifying f the playoffs three consecutive seasons, which they have not done since they made six consecutive playoff appearances from 1990 to 1995. They finished the season with a 10–6 recd, earning the AFCs fourth seed in the playoffs. In the Wild Card round, they would lose to the Tennessee Titans 22–21. In the game, the Chiefs had a comming 21–3 lead at halftime but failed to sce a single point in the second half. The loss extended their NFL recd six straight home playoff losses. It was the second time under Andy Reid they lost a playoff game after being up by me than 10 points at halftime. The Chiefs have lost three consecutive playoff games,  have lost 11 of their last 12. The Chiefs first two wins of the season came against teams that eventually meet in Super Bowl LII to end the season. the New Engl Patriots  Philadelphia Eagles. 

In 2018, Under firstyear starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs would start the season 5–0 f the second consecutive year befe losing to the New Engl Patriots. The Chiefs then won their next four games befe losing again to the Los Angeles Rams. A Week 14 win over the Baltime Ravens clinched the Chiefs fourth consecutive playoff appearance. After defeating their rival, the Oakl Raiders 35–3 in Week 17, the Chiefs clinched their third consecutive division title  homefield advantage throughout the playoffs f the first time since 1997.

In the playoffs, the Chiefs advanced to the AFC Championship Game f the first time since 1993 by defeating the Indianapolis Colts, 31–13 in the Divisional round. This win ended the Chiefs 6game home playoff losing streak dating back to 1993. It was only the Chiefs second win in their last 13 playoff games. In the AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion New Engl Patriots, 37–31 in overtime. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the AP NFL MVP award becoming the first Chiefs player to ever be named MVP.

The 2019 Kansas City Chiefs season was the Kansas City Chiefs 50th in the National Football League, their 60th overall, their seventh under head coach Andy Reid,  third under general manager Brett Veach.

In the offseason, the Chiefs released two of their longesttenured players: Justin Houston  Eric Berry. The Chiefs started the season with a 1–3 recd at home, their wst recd after four home games since 2012. However, they began the season 4–0 on the road, their best road recd after four road games since 2013. With a Week 14 Oakl Raiders loss  a win over the New Engl Patriots, the Chiefs clinched the AFC West, extending their teamrecd division title streak to four consecutive. They also clinched the franchises fifth consecutive playoff appearance, one sht of the franchise recd of six consecutive from 1990–1995. The Chiefs also finished undefeated in the AFC West f the second time under Andy Reid, extending their recd within the AFC West from 2015 to 27–3. They clinched their second straight bye to the Divisional Round of the AFC playoffs due to a Week 17 win against the Los Angeles Chargers combined with a Patriots loss to the Miami Dolphins.

In the Divisional Round, the Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans 51–31 despite falling behind 24–0 in the second quarter to give the Chiefs playoff wins in backtoback seasons f the first time in franchise histy. The 51 points they sced was a franchise recd f a postseason game. The win, along with the Baltime Ravens loss the previous night, allowed the Chiefs to host the AFC Championship f the second time in franchise histy. They defeated the Tennessee Titans 35–24 in the AFC Championship advancing to Super Bowl LIV, where they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31–20 to win their first championship since Super Bowl IV in 1970.
