A change in Chrome 61 has caused the address bars contents to become unhighlighted when opening a new tab. This causes frustration because you cant just type a search when opening a new tab.
This is currently under discussion in the Chrome bug tracker, e.g.

I am continuing to watch the issue  also looking f a wkaround.

This extension is NOT compatible with Chromebooks. In ChromeOS, apps are accessed via the Launcher  not via the Chrome Apps page. The Chrome Apps page is blank within Chrome, therefe installing this extension will give you a blank new tab page.

OVERVIEW


Since Chrome 33, many people have expressed the desire to have their Apps page automatically open upon creating a new tab. This extension does just that.

Unftunately the Apps page is not quite as nice as the old preChrome 33 New Tab page, but its still an improvement :)

UPDATE: 19Mar2015


Based on user feedback (thanks Ben!), Ive added a new feature to this extension. In the previous version, if Chrome crashed it would display a "Reste" button upon restarting. Clicking this button would load all the tabs you had open just befe the crash.

The problem with this extension was that it would detect a new tab opening,  then load the Apps page, hence removing the "Reste" button. Your tabs would be lost fever!

The new behaviour in this version is: the extension will detect if a crash occurred  will automatically reload your previous tabs.

Please let me know if this causes any issues using the feedback details below.

New Tab Apps Page插件离线安装方法

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 New Tab Apps PageChrome插件v1.1.10版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
