When you search f Postgres related things, an old version of the documentation is often indexed. Similarly, some answers on sites like Stack Overflow link to old versions of the documentation. 

pg_docs_bot helps you avoid the annoyance of having to click "Current" when you get there, the frustration of having read the whole page befe realising it was an old version,  even not realising that it was an out of date version.

Naturally, this extension doesnt help solve the root cause(s) of this issue. There have been at least two good conversations on the PostgreSQL mailing lists about how to teach the search engines which version to link to. Please continue to encourage people to link to the "current" version around the web, which will gradually help!

Features:
* Redirects links to the "current" version
* After redirecting, displays a notice (including a link to the page you were redirected from)
* Avoids redirecting some deprecated features (to avoid 404s)
* Doesnt redirect when coming from another page in the docs, so you can still check old versions (the main problem with generic redirects)

Limitations:
* Only suppts redirecting to "current" (request suppt f other versions on GitHub)
* Wks f the English language docs
* Wks f version 7.0 links upwards
* Chrome extension wks on a limited list of search engines  stack exchange sites (to avoid needing  permission)

Example:
Try searching f "postgresql create index" on your search engine of choice. At the time of writing, on DuckDuckGo, the 9.1 version of the docs is the first search result (whereas the "current" version is 12.2).

pg_docs_bot插件离线安装方法

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 pg_docs_botChrome插件v1.0.2版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
