RetractOMatic插件描述

Retracted scientific research should be treated with caution. Often its conclusions are at least partially flawed. Yet many retracted papers continue to be referenced by scientists f years after being withdrawn. Why? Because retractions are not always clearly marked.

RetractOMatic highlights retracted titles in Google Scholar  Web of Science searches. When RetractOMatic is confident that a paper is retracted it turns the text red, while lower confidence matches turn ange. Its a small first step toward notifying scientists of withdrawn papers when browsing the web.

Try it out! Ftunately retracted papers are pretty rare in the wild, but if youve just downloaded RetractOMatic, you can test it by searching f one of the top 5 most cited retracted papers (accding to retractionwatch.com):

1. Visfatin: A protein secreted by visceral fat that mimics the effects of insulin
2. Ileallymphoidnodular hyperplasia, nonspecific colitis,  pervasive developmental disder in children
3. An enhanced transient expression system in plants based on suppression of gene silencing by the p19 protein of tomato bushy stunt virus
4. Purification  ex vivo expansion of postnatal human marrow mesodermal progenit cells
5. Viral pathogenicity determinants are suppresss of transgene silencing in Nicotiana benthamiana

Of course, not all retracted science is completely wrong! Papers are withdrawn f all kinds of reasons, including licensing issues, duplication,  min honest mistakes. By making you aware of retractions, RetractOMatic simply allows you to use your own good judgement when deciding what wk to build on.

FAQ:
Where do you source your list of retracted papers from?
Since theres currently no definitive database of retractions, RetractOMatic matches titles that are marked as "Retracted Publication" in PubMed. Version 1.0 uses a snapshot taken in March 2016,  well be updating the RetractOMatic title list regularly. PubMeds retraction list is of course only part of the picture. If you have a suggestion f additional sources of retraction data, please do get in touch.

Whats the difference  a high confidence match (red)  a low confidence match (ange)?
A title is coled red only if it completely matches a title in the retracted paper list. If a Google Scholar title is truncated (i.e. it ends in "...") but the visible part of the title matches a retraction, we col it ange to indicate a lower confidence match. After all, we cant be sure what the full article title is. Any title containing the wd "retracted"  "retraction" is also highlighted in ange. This helps to make existing retraction notices me obvious, but we still count the matches as low confidence, since the paper might simply be about retraction.    

Why is this retracted paper not highlighted?
There are a number of reasons why a retracted paper might not be highlighted:
 Its not labelled as retracted in the PubMed database
 The retraction is recent  will show up in the next update
 The paper was returned by a Google Scholar search  begins with "...". RectractOMatic does not currently suppt titles truncated at the beginning.
 Theres a typo in the retraction notice (were looking at you "retration!")
 Theres a subtle difference  how the title is displayed in the search results,  how it appears in our retraction list. Weve tried to hle many min differences of this kind already.
 Or, theres a genuine bug in our code :(

Why is this paper that isnt retracted highlighted?
The only time this should happen is if the paper title contains the wd "retraction"  "retracted", in which  RetractOMatic will col it ange as a low confidence match. We do this to make retraction notices st out me, but no Chrome extension can replace your own good judgement! So please remember that low confidence matches are just that  do some digging. If you see a high confidence match that is increct, please get in touch so we can investigate further.  

Why does RetractOMatic require these permissions?
The permissions we ask f sound extensive, but theyre actually the minimum needed to be able to check the paper titles shown in your browser  change the appearance of some of them. RetractOMatic does not run on any websites other than Google Scholar  Web of Science searches,  we gather no data about our users browsing habits! The code f RetractOMatic has not been obfuscated in any way, so please go ahead  take a look at how it wks.
                                

RetractOMatic插件离线安装方法

1.首先用户点击谷歌浏览器右上角的自定义及控制按钮，在下拉框中选择设置。

2.在打开的谷歌浏览器的扩展管理器最左侧选择扩展程序或直接输入：chrome://extensions/

3.找到自己已经下载好的Chrome离线安装文件xxx.crx，然后将其从资源管理器中拖动到Chrome的扩展管理界面中，这时候用户会发现在扩展管理器的中央部分中会多出一个”拖动以安装“的插件按钮。

4.下载 RetractOMaticChrome插件v1.16.5版本到本地。

5.勾选开发者模式，点击加载已解压的扩展程序，将文件夹选择即可安装插件。

注意：最新版本的chrome浏览器直接拖放安装时会出现“程序包无效CRX-HEADER-INVALID”的报错信息，参照这篇文章即可解决
